ASEAN foreign ministers plus three and ASEAN SG join hands at the meeting today in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH: ASEAN plus three foreign ministers’ meeting on Tuesday agreed to create food stock to prevent food security.
“The food security is a key issue for supporting the region and the world,” Dr Kao Kim Hour told media in a press conference at peace palace, where is venue of the asean foreign ministers plus three meeting. Foreign ministers agreed to set up the food reservoir to support the region. asean members thank three countries- china, south korea and japan who have contributed to helping the asean connectivity to speed up the ASEAN integration as the bloc will create the asean community in 2015.
Cambodia already approved and urged other countries to join the agreement. The meeting stressed the importance of food security.
The food crisis is a concern for the region and world as the price of commodity continue to be higher and the fuel price also is up. And the high food price affects the living condition of the general people. The dangers from natural disasters are concerned for the region and future of the food stock, officials said, adding ASEAN countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar are the bowl of milled products and the stocks to supply international markets.
Last June Cambodia hosted Rice Trade Forum to start to advance the goal of food security in Asian region. Today ASEAN members together have population of 600 million and also highly demand milled rice product. ###
