(Phnom Penh, March 28 ) : Cambodia will host Asean civil society and ASEAN people forum on March 29 to boost the mutual interest of peoples in ASEAN region and ASEAN integration.

The event will talk on how to make a public awareness about ASEAN Human Rights Declaration at the ACSC/APF 2012 regarding the drafting process, to share civil society analysis on ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and plan for advocacy and campaign. To share the inputs from civil society organization on ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and its attempt to engage with the drafting process and AICHR, To build the momentum of public campaign and awareness among ASEAN civil society groups, To develop action plan and strategy on campaign and advocacy on the ASEAH Human Rights Declaration.

the history of Civil society organization in Southeast Asia finds it deeply disturbing that there is very little information on the drafting process on Draft of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration. Because of the lack of feedback from AICHR, and with the entire process taking place in secrecy, CSOs have been left in the dark as to whether these contributions have been considered or to what extent they are to be reflected in any forthcoming drafts.

Because of this, we proposed Roundtable Discussion on “the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration”, jointly organized by Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), People’s Empowerment Foundation (PEF), Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC), The Cambodian Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC) will be held on 30 March 2012 during ACSC/APF 2012 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 29-31 March 2012.

Based on currently available information on Draft of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration, this roundtable discussion aims to analyze the draft and to continue engaged in the drafting process of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration.

In this context, this roundtable discussion aims to gather input on campaign and advocacy on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration to ensure it’s are in compliance with international human rights law and standard. ###
