A Pakistani reporter for the Voice of America was shot dead on Tuesday at a mosque in northwestern Pakistan.
The largest radical Islamic sect in Pakistan claimed responsibility for the killing of the reporter for the US government-backed radio station.
The spokesperson for the group, the Pakistani Taliban, told NHK that they killed the journalist in the suburb of Peshawar for his pro-American reports. He added that they warned him many times, but the reporter ignored the warnings.
VOA confirmed that the 44-year-old reporter had faced repeated threats and had been forced to change his address.
The Paris-based Reporters Without Borders says 10 journalists were murdered in Pakistan last year.
More journalists were killed in Pakistan than in any other country for the second year in a row. (NHK)
