Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang resigns

Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang has left the company.

The US Internet firm says Yang resigned from its board and all other responsibilities at the company on Tuesday.

He also resigned from the boards of Yahoo Japan and the Alibaba Group in China.

Yahoo says Yang intends to pursue interests outside the company.

Yang launched Yahoo with a school friend in 1995 while studying at Stanford University in California. The firm’s Internet search engine was successful in the early years of the World Wide Web, but the company gradually lost market share to its rival Google.

Yang became chief executive in 2007 to rebuild the firm, but it suffered further after rejecting an acquisition offer from Microsoft.

Attention is now focused on how the struggling Internet portal will reorganize without the influence of Yang. ( NHK)
